- Properly support the vehicle so that the wheels are off the ground.
- With the scan tool select Powertrain, Engine Data, and Data to
monitor the vehicle speed.
- Start the engine, transmission in gear, wheels spinning.
- Compare the vehicle speed on the scan tool to the speed displayed
on the speedometer.
Does the scan tool agree with the speedometer?

- Check for a speed input signal to the cluster by backprobing with
a DMM.
- Measure the AC voltage between the DK GRN/WHT (817) wire cavity
A3 and ground.
Is the AC voltage within the specified range?
| 2-6.5 VAC (approximately 2-10 MPH)

| Check the following items:
- The DK GRN/WHT (817) wire for an open circuit between the cluster
to the VCM/PCM.
- The DK GRN/WHT (817) wire for a short to ground between the cluster
to the VCM/PCM.
- The DK GRN/WHT (817) wire for a short to battery between the
cluster to the VCM/PCM.
- All electrical connectors for proper matting.
- Repair any problem found.
