Problem

Action

Air is present in the system.

  1. Add power steering fluid to the power steering reservoir. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  2. Bleed the system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  3. Inspect the hose connectors for proper torque or damaged seals.

The steering gear mounting is loose.

Tighten the attaching bolts to the specified torque. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

The steering linkage joints are worn.

Replace any loose parts. Refer to Steering Linkage Inspection in Steering Linkage.

The steering gear mounting is improperly adjusted.

Adjust the steering gear mounting to specifications. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

There are worn front wheel bearings.

Replace the bearings. Refer to Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement in Front Suspension.

There is a worn or damaged steering gear.

Replace the steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .
