Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to Section OA.
- Remove the exhaust system. Refer to
General Exhaust System Replacement
.
- Remove the nuts securing the three-way converter (TWC) to the exhaust manifold.
- Remove the TWC braces. Refer to
Converter Braces
.
- Remove the TWC from the vehicle.
- Remove the HO2S electrical connector.
- Remove the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S).
Installation Procedure
- Install the three-way converter (TWC) to the vehicle.
- Install the nuts securing the TWC to the exhaust manifold. Finger
tighten only.
- Install the TWC braces. Refer to
Converter Braces
.
Important: In order to avoid rattles and vibrations, work from the front to the
rear.
- Align the exhaust system when all the bolts and the nuts are loose.
Check for proper clearances between other components.
- Install the exhaust system to the three-way converter. Finger
tighten only. Refer to
General Exhaust System Replacement
.
- Coat the ends of the HO2S with anti-seize compound GM P/N 5613695
(or equivalent).
- Install the HO2S exhaust sensor.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts from the TWC to the manifold to 41 N·m
(30 lb ft).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Tighten the complete exhaust system to the correct specifications.
Refer to
Fastener Tightening Specifications
.
