Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to SECTION 0A.
- Support the vehicle with safety stands.
- Drain the transmission oil. Refer to Oil Drain and Fill .
- Remove the following parts:
- Replace the reverse idler shaft bolt.
- Remove all traces of the old gasket from the rear case and the cover sealing surfaces.
Important: After removing the cover, replace the reverse idler gear shaft bolt. This will prevent shaft rotation.

Installation Procedure
- Remove the reverse idler shaft bolt.
- Install a new O-ring seal on the reverse idler shaft bolt.
- Install the following parts:
- Fill the transmission with manual transmission lubricant. Refer to Oil Drain and Fill .
- Remove the safety stands from the vehicle.
- Lower the vehicle.

Tighten
The bolts to 25 N·m (18 Ib ft).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
