Removal Procedure
- Remove the transmission from the vehicle. Refer to
Transmission Removal
.
- Remove the following parts:

- Clean the front case and the bearing retainer tube flange sealing
surfaces.
Installation Procedure
Important: If the main drive gear bearing retainer tube flange or the retainer
tube is to be replaced, the following procedure must be performed in order
to ensure proper transmission main drive gear end play.
Tools Required

- Assemble the transmission support and fixture tools.
Use J 37337
and J 3289-20
.
Cap the output shaft end of the transmission or drain the transmission
oil.
- Install the transmission to the transmission support and fixture tools.
• | Rotate the transmission assembly in order to position the main
drive gear UP. |
- Measure the distance from the sealing surface of the front case to the main
drive gear bearing outer race using a depth micrometer.
Record the measurement.
- Measure the distance from the main drive gear bearing retainer flange gasket
surface with a new gasket in place to the retainer tube selective shim mating
surface using a depth micrometer.
Record the measurement.
- Record the difference between the two measurements.
- Subtract 0.05--0.10 mm (0.002--0.004 in)
for compressed gasket allowance, from the difference.
- Select a shim equal to the final difference. Refer to
Shim Size Specifications
- Install the following parts:

Tighten
The bolts to 21 N·m (15 Ib ft).
- Remove the transmission support and fixture tools.
- Install the transmission. Refer to
Transmission Installation
