Important:
• | Before performing the Fuel Tank Leak Check place a dry chemical
(Class B) fire extinguisher near the work area. |
• | Before removing a fuel tank for a suspected leak, make sure the
fuel pipes are not leaking onto the fuel tank. Also, make sure fuel is not
leaking around the fuel sender assembly gasket. |
• | This check requires the fuel sender assembly with the gasket to
be installed in each fuel tank. |
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to the
Fuel Pressure Relief
.
- Drain the fuel tanks. Refer to
Draining Fuel Tanks
.
- Remove the fuel tank(s). Refer to
Fuel Tank Replacement
.
- Cap or plug the following on the left fuel tank:
• | The 3 fuel sender assembly pipes. |
• | The fuel tank vent hose. |
- Cap or plug the following on the right fuel tank:
• | The 2 fuel sender assembly pipes. |
- Install the crossover hose to both fuel tanks.
Tighten
Tighten the crossover hose clamps to 4 N·m (35 lb
in).
- Submerge the fuel tanks in water or apply a soap solution to the
outside of the fuel tanks.
- Apply 40 kPa (5.8 psi) to the fuel fill hose on
the left fuel tank. Air bubbles appearing from the fuel tank(s) indicate a
leak.
- Replace the fuel tank(s) if it is leaking. Refer to
Fuel Tank Replacement
