Removal Procedure

Caution: Disconnect the power window switch when working inside the driver door. When operated, the Express Up/Down Feature allows the door window to move very quickly, without stopping, which could cause personal injury.

  1. Remove the door trim panel. Refer to Door Trim Panel Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 63790  Size: SH
  3. Remove the water deflector.

  4. Object Number: 63834  Size: SH
  5. Remove the rear sight/access plugs.

  6. Object Number: 63823  Size: SH
  7. Reconnect the power window switch and raise the door window.
  8. Disconnect the switch.

  9. Object Number: 63831  Size: SH
  10. Remove the lock rod from the outside handle lock cylinder lever.
  11. Remove the outside handle door opening rod from the door lock. Refer to Door Lock Replacement .

  12. Object Number: 63797  Size: SH
  13. Remove the bolts attaching the outside handle.
  14. Remove the handle and the gasket.
  15. Transfer parts as necessary.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 63831  Size: SH
  1. Install the lock cylinder to the handle if necessary.
  2. Install the door opening rod to the handle.

  3. Object Number: 63797  Size: SH
  4. Install the gasket to the handle.
  5. Install the handle to the door, turning the key in the lock to aid in installation.
  6. Hand start the outside handle mounting bolts.
  7. Using the sight holes for access tighten the handle mounting bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the outside door handle mounting bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  9. Install the lock rod to the lock cylinder lever.
  10. Install the door opening rod to the door lock.
