Disassembly Procedure


    Object Number: 82263  Size: SH
  1. Remove the drive shaft assembly; refer to Power Steering Pump Shaft Seal Replacement .
  2. Place a punch (1) in the access hole (2) on the pump housing (3).
  3. Remove the thrust plate retaining ring (4).

  4. Object Number: 318523  Size: SH
  5. Place a 5/8 piece of bar stock or suitable brass drift (2) on the pressure plate hub from the drive shaft side of the housing (3).
  6. Using a press (1) against the bar stock (2), force the thrust plate assembly (6) through the other side of the pump housing (3).
  7. Remove the O-ring seal (5).
  8. Discard the O-ring seal (5).
  9. Remove the pump ring.
  10. Remove the pump rotor (7).
  11. Remove the ten vanes.
  12. Remove the two pump ring dowel pins.
  13. Remove the pressure plate. Use a press to apply pressure in order to remove pressure plate if necessary.
  14. Remove the O-ring seal from the pressure plate.
  15. Discard the O-ring seal.
  16. Remove the pressure plate spring.
  17. Remove the dowel pin.
  18. Remove the O-ring seal from the sleeve assembly.
  19. Discard the O-ring seal.

  20. Object Number: 82265  Size: SH
  21. Use a punch (1) on the drive shaft side of the housing (2) to remove the sleeve (3).
  22. Clean all of the parts with power steering fluid.
  23. Dry the parts.
  24. Inspect the following parts for scoring, pitting, or chatter marks:
  25. • The pressure plate
    • The vanes
    • The pump ring
    • The drive shaft
    • The splines
    • The ball bearing
  26. Replace any marked parts.

Assembly Procedure


    Object Number: 82266  Size: SH
  1. Use a suitable socket (2) to install the new sleeve assembly (3). Press the socket (3) to seat the sleeve assembly into the housing from the pressure plate side.

  2. Object Number: 95631  Size: SH
  3. Lubricate the new O-ring seal (2) with power steering fluid.
  4. Install the O-ring seal (2) into the groove in the sleeve assembly.
  5. Install the dowel pin (3) into the housing (4).
  6. Install the pressure plate spring (1).

  7. Object Number: 318552  Size: SH
  8. Lubricate the new O-ring seal (4) with power steering fluid.
  9. Install the O-ring seal (4) into the groove in the pressure plate (3).
  10. To properly engage the dowel pin with the pressure plate (3), mark (1) the top of the pressure plate (3) directly over the dowel pin hole in the plate.
  11. Install the pressure plate (3).
  12. Install the two pump ring dowel pins (2).

  13. Object Number: 82270  Size: SH
  14. Check that the counterbore (2) is facing the drive shaft end of the housing.
  15. Install the pump rotor (1).
  16. Install the ten vanes into the slots in the pump rotor (1).

  17. Object Number: 318559  Size: SH
  18. Make sure the identification marks (7) on the pump ring (5) face upward.
  19. Install the pump ring (5) over the dowel pins (4).
  20. Lubricate the new O-ring seal (3) with power steering fluid.
  21. Install the O-ring seal (3) into the groove in the pump housing (5).
  22. Lubricate the outer edge of the thrust plate (2).
  23. Install the thrust plate assembly (2). Line up the dimples (1) in the thrust plate with the bolt holes in the housing.
  24. Check that the thrust plate (2) engages with the pump ring dowel pins (4).

  25. Object Number: 318570  Size: SH
  26. Use a press (7) in order to install the thrust plate assembly (3) far enough to install the thrust plate retaining ring (6).
  27. Center the ring opening with the bolt hole (2) in the housing (4) nearest to the access hole (5).
  28. Install the retaining ring (6) into the groove in the pump housing (4).
  29. Install the drive shaft assembly; refer to Power Steering Pump Shaft Seal Replacement .
