Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 82187  Size: SH
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the steering wheel inflator module. Refer to Steering Wheel Inflator Module Replacement
  3. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  4. Remove the upper and lower shrouds. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement - On Vehicle .
  5. Remove the wire harness straps from the steering wheel column wire harness.
  6. Remove the retaining ring.
  7. Remove the SIR coil assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 82170  Size: SH
  1. Center the following components:
  2. • Center the race and upper shaft assembly.
    • Center the SIR coil assembly.
    • Center the wheels straight ahead.
    • Center the block tooth and centering mark on the shaft assembly at 12 o'clock position.

  3. Perform the following steps to install the SIR coil assembly:
  4. 2.1. Check that the shaft is centered.
    2.2. Check that the coil is centered.
    2.3. Align the coil with the horn tower.
    2.4. Slide the coil onto the shaft.
  5. Install the retaining ring.
  6. Check that the retaining ring seats securely in the groove on the shaft.
  7. Route the lower coil wire along the steering column jacket assembly.
  8. Install the wire harness straps to the steering column wire harness.
  9. Install the lower and upper shrouds. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement - On Vehicle .

  10. Object Number: 82187  Size: SH
  11. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  12. Install the steering wheel inflator module. Refer to Steering Wheel Inflator Module Replacement
  13. Enable the SIR system once all service operations are completed. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
  14. Connect the negative battery cable.
  15. Program the Transmitters. Refer to Transmitter Programming/Synchronization in Keyless Entry.
