Diagnostic Instructions

    • Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
    • Review Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
    •  Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptor

DTC B2860: Telescope Position Sensor Failure

Circuit/System Description

The memory seat module - driver determines the position of the steering column based on inputs received from position sensor built into the telescoping drive motor. The memory seat module - driver supplies a 5-volt reference and a ground to the sensor and monitors the column position via the telescope signal circuit.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition ON

Conditions for Setting the DTC

This DTC will set when the telescope sensor signal circuit voltage is less than 0.25 volt or greater than 4.75 volts for 2 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The memory seat module - driver will not allow the telescoping drive motor to operate during memory recall and/or easy exit operations. The telescoping drive motor will still operate from the telescope switch.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • A current DTC will clear when a fault is no longer present.
    • A history DTC will clear after 100 malfunction-free ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Telescope Sensor parameter. The reading should be between 0.25 and 4.75 volts.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the telescoping drive motor.
  2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 1.0 ohm resistance between the low reference circuit terminal E and ground
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the memory seat module - driver
  4. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 volts between the 5-volt reference circuit terminal D and ground.
  5. If less than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the memory seat module - driver
If greater than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the memory seat module - driver
  6. Verify the scan tool Telescope Sensor parameter is greater than 4.75 volts.
  7. If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit terminal C for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the memory seat module - driver.
  8. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal C and the low reference circuit terminal A. Verify the scan tool Telescope Sensor parameter is less than 0.25 volt.
  9. If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the memory seat module - driver.
  10. If all circuits tests normal, test or replace the telescoping drive motor.
