Front Disc Brake Hardware Replacement JL9, J55
Removal Procedure
Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning in the Preface section.
Caution: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper
in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.
- Remove the brake caliper from the mounting bracket and support the brake caliper (2) with heavy mechanic's wire (1), or equivalent. Do NOT disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper. Refer
to
Front Brake Caliper Replacement.
- Remove the brake pads (2) from the brake caliper bracket.
- Remove the brake pad retainers (1) from the brake caliper bracket.
- Remove the caliper pins (5) from the disc brake caliper mounting bracket (3).
- Remove the caliper pin boots (4) from the disc brake caliper mounting bracket.
- Lightly wire brush all brake pad contact areas in order to remove any corrosion.
Installation Procedure
- Install the caliper pin boots (4) to the disc brake caliper mounting bracket.
- Lubricate the caliper pins (5) with high temperature silicone lubricant.
- Install the caliper pins to the disc brake caliper mounting bracket (3).
- Install the brake pad retainers (1) to the caliper bracket.
- Install the brake pads (2) to the caliper bracket.
- Install the disc brake caliper to the mounting bracket.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Install the disc brake caliper bolts and tighten to
31 N·m (23 lb ft).
Apply and release the brake pedal 3/4 stroke as many times as necessary in order to obtain a firm brake
pedal.

Tip Spring replacement is not necessary during brake pad service. Replace the spring only if the spring is damaged. |

Removal Procedure
Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning in the Preface section.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
Note: The disc brake rotor protectors must be installed prior to tire and wheel assembly removal to avoid potential damage to the disc brake rotor if contact occurs with the tire and wheel assembly during removal.
- Install the disc brake rotor protectors and remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
- Remove the upper disc brake pad guide pin (1).
- Remove the disc brake pad retaining spring (1).
- Remove the lower disc brake pad guide pin (1).
- Remove the bolt and the brake caliper guide pin (1).
Installation Procedure
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Install the brake caliper guide pin (1) and the bolt and tighten the bolt to
30 N·m (22 lb ft).
- Install the lower disc brake pad guide pin (1).
- Install the disc brake pad retaining spring (1).
- Install the upper disc brake pad guide pin (1).
- Install the tire and wheel assembly and remove the disc brake rotor protectors. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
