Important: The following steps must be completed before using the symptom tables

Review the system description and operation in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions. Refer to Variable Effort Steering System Description and Operation .

Visual/Physical Inspection

    • Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the Power Steering System.
    • Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.
    • Inspect the power steering reservoir for the proper power steering fluid level and condition.

Symptom List

Refer to a symptom diagnostic procedure from the following list in order to diagnose the symptom:

    •  Variable Effort Steering Operating with Full Assist at all Times
    •  Variable Effort Steering Operating with Decreased Assist at all Times
    •  SSPS Warning Lamp Always On
    •  SSPS Warning Lamp Inoperative
