Removal Procedure
- Open the hood.
Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads
must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury
and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the battery negative cable from the battery. Refer to
Battery Cable Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Remove the engine cover from the vehicle. Refer to
Engine Cover Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Remove the oil level indicator and tube on the right side exhaust
manifold. Refer to
Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement
.
- Remove the EGR pipe from the left side exhaust manifold. Refer
to
Exhaust Gas Recirculation Pipe Replacement
in
Engine Controls.
- Remove the spark plugs from the cylinder head. Refer to
Spark Plug Replacement
.
- Remove the exhaust pipe at the exhaust manifold. Refer to
Catalytic Converter Replacement
in Engine Exhaust.
- Remove the heat shields
and nuts.
- Remove the exhaust manifold
and nuts.
- Clean and inspect the sealing surfaces on the cylinder head. Refer
to Cylinder Head Clean and Inspect
.
- Clean the threads on the exhaust manifold mounting studs.
Installation Procedure
- Install the exhaust manifold.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the exhaust
manifold nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
- Install the spark plug
heat shields and nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
