Removal Procedure

  1. Open the hood.
  2. Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  4. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  5. Remove the engine cover from the vehicle. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement in Interior Trim.
  6. Remove the upper intake manifold from the lower intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  7. Remove the lower intake manifold from the cylinder heads. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  8. Remove the air conditioning compressor from the mounting bracket and lay aside (left cylinder head). Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement in HVAC.
  9. Remove the air conditioning compressor mounting bracket and lay aside (left cylinder head). Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement in HVAC.
  10. Remove the generator from the generator mounting bracket. Refer to Generator Replacement .
  11. Remove the generator mounting bracket (right cylinder head). Refer to Generator Bracket Replacement .
  12. Remove the exhaust manifold from the cylinder head. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement .
  13. Remove the spark plugs from the cylinder head. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement .
  14. Remove the valve rocker arm cover from the cylinder head. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement .
  15. Remove the valve rocker arm from the cylinder head. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  16. Remove the push rods from the cylinder head. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .

  18. Remove the cylinder head from the vehicle.
  19. • For the left cylinder removal. Refer to Cylinder Head Removal (Left) .
    • For the right cylinder removal. Refer to Cylinder Head Removal (Right) .
  20. Disassemble the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Disassemble .
  21. Clean and inspect the sealing surfaces of the engine block. Refer to Engine Block Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure

  1. Assemble the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Assemble .

  3. Install the cylinder head to the engine block.
  4. • For the left cylinder installation, refer to Cylinder Head Installation (Left Side) .
    • For the right cylinder installation, refer to Cylinder Head Installation (Right Side) .
  5. Install the push rod into the engine block. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  6. Install the valve rocker arm to the cylinder head. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  7. Install the valve rocker arm cover to the cylinder head. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement .
  8. Install the Install the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement .
  9. Install the spark plugs to the cylinder head. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement .
  10. Install the lower intake manifold to the cylinder heads. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  11. Install the upper intake manifold to the lower intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  12. Install the generator mounting bracket to the cylinder head. Refer to Generator Bracket Replacement .

  14. Install the generator to the mounting bracket. Refer to Generator Replacement .
  15. Install the air conditioning mounting bracket to the cylinder head. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement in HVAC.
  16. Install the a/c compressor to the a/c mounting bracket. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement in HVAC.
  17. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  18. Connect the battery negative cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement .
  19. Close the hood.
