  1. Place the ignition switch in the RUN position.
  2. Ensure that the radio is OFF.

Radio will display the current time.

    • Go to Radio Always On .
    • Go to Radio Memory Inoperative .
    • If radio displays LOC, go to Radio/Audio System Operation-Theftlock to perform the unlocking procedure.

Turn the radio ON.

Radio will display the last frequency selected for approximately five seconds, and then the current time.

    • Go to Radio Controls Inoperative .
    • Go to Radio Memory Inoperative .

  1. Place the headlamp switch in the park position.
  2. Slowly adjust the IP dimmer switch to the high and low positions.
  1. The radio display will dim and the pushbuttons will illuminate.
  2. The illumination of the radio display will vary with the position of the dimmer switch.

Operate all radio controls following the appropriate instructions in Radio/Audio System Description for the audio system equipped with the vehicle.

All radio controls function properly.

Go to Radio Replacement .

  1. Select a strong frequency with the tuner.
  2. Adjust volume to an appropriate level.

All speakers will operate with good sound quality.

Go to Audio Preliminary Diagnosis .

  1. Adjust the FADE control to operate the front speakers only.
  2. Adjust the BALANCE control to the full left position.
  3. Adjust the BALANCE control to the full right position.
  1. Only the front speakers will operate.
  2. Only the left front speaker will operate.
  3. Only the right front speaker will operate.

  1. Adjust the FADE control to operate the rear speakers only.
  2. Adjust the BALANCE control to the full left position.
  3. Adjust the BALANCE control to the full right position.
  1. Only the rear speakers will operate.
  2. Only the left rear speaker/s will operate.
  3. Only the right rear speaker/s will operate.

Go to Speakers Inoperative or Distorted - Rear .

  1. Place the speed compensated volume control in the maximum setting.
  2. Test drive the vehicle.

Volume will increase and decrease, as vehicle speed and noise increase and decrease.

Go to Speed Compensated Volume .

If the audio system is equipped with a cassette tape player perform the following step.

Insert a known good cassette tape into the player.

Radio will switch to the cassette tape player operation and begin playing the tape.

    • Go to Tape Player Inoperative .

Operate all cassette tape player controls following the appropriate instructions in Radio/Audio System Description for the audio system equipped with the vehicle.

All cassette tape player controls function properly.

Go to Radio Replacement .

If audio system is equipped with a compact disc player perform the following step.

Insert a known good compact disc into the CD player.

Radio will switch to the compact disc player operation and begin playing the CD.

    • Go to Compact Disc Inoperative .
    • Go to Compact Disc Skip .

Operate all compact disc player controls following the appropriate instructions in Radio/Audio System Description for the audio system equipped with the vehicle.

All compact disc player controls function properly.

    • Go to Radio Replacement .
