Parking Brake Cable Replacement Front Cables
Removal Procedure
- Complete the lever pin up procedure. Refer to
Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Enabling
.
- Loosen the cable at the
cable adjuster.
- Disconnect the front
park brake cable from the rear park brake cables.
- Remove the park brake
release handle and the cable from the vehicle. Refer to
Parking Brake Release Handle Assembly Replacement
.
- Disconnect the front
park brake cable from the park brake lever.
- Disconnect the front
park brake cable from the park brake lever retainer.
- Remove the rubber grommet
from the cowl.
- Remove the front park brake cable from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the front park brake cable through the vehicle.
- Connect the rubber grommet
into the cowl.
- Connect the front park
brake cable to the park brake lever retainer.
- Connect the front park
brake cable to the park brake lever.
- Install the park brake
release handle and the cable. Refer to
Parking Brake Release Handle Assembly Replacement
.
- Connect the front park
brake cable to the rear park brake cables.
- Remove the pin from the park brake lever.
- Move the lever to the FULL up position.
- Measure the threads on
the equalizer. Adjust the threads to the following specifications:
• | Passenger/Cargo to 13 mm (0.511 in) |
• | Cutaway/Upfitters to 21 mm (0.826 in) |
- Verify that the vehicle will hold position with the brake lever
depressed.

Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment

Parking Brake Cable Replacement Rear Cables
Removal Procedure
- Complete the lever pin up procedure. Refer to
Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Enabling
.
- Loosen the cable at the
cable adjuster).
- Disconnect the front park brake cable from the rear park brake
cables.
- Remove the rear brake shoes from the backing plate.
- Disconnect the rear park brake cable from the backing plate retainer.
- Remove the rear park
brake cable from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the rear park
brake cable to the vehicle.
- Connect the rear cable to the backing plate retainer.
- Connect the rear brake shoes to the backing plate.
- Connect the front park
brake cable to the rear park brake cables.
- Remove the pin (1) from
the park brake lever.
- Place the lever to the FULL up position.
- Measure the threads of
the equalizer. Adjust the threads to the following specifications:
• | Passenger/Cargo to 13 mm (0.511 in) |
• | Cutaway/Upfitters to 21 mm (0.826 in) |
- Verify that the vehicle will hold the position with the brake
lever depressed.
