Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

Caution: Replace the passenger presence system as a complete assembly to prevent possible injury to the occupant. All the components in the service kit are assembled and calibrated as a unit. Using only some of the components in the service kit will cause the passenger presence system to operate improperly.

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Remove the front seat. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket .
  2. Remove the seat riser outboard finish cover. Refer to Front Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement .
  3. Remove the seat recliner inboard finish covers. Refer to Front Seat Back Recliner Inner Trim Panel Replacement .
  4. Remove the seat recliner outboard finish covers. Refer to Front Seat Back Recliner Outer Trim Panel Replacement .
  5. Re-zero the inflatable restraint passenger presence system whenever the seat cushion or any component of the passenger presence system is removed. Refer to Passenger Presence System Programming and Setup .

Cover, Seat Cushion

Tip

  1. Tilt the seat back forward.
  2. Disconnect the seat cushion cover J-channel from the seat cushion frame.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector if working on the passenger seat.

Pad, Seat Cushion

Tip
The passenger presence system is part of the pad on the passenger seat cushion, and must be replaced as an assembly.

Heater Assembly, Seat Cushion

Tip

  1. On heated seats, cut the plastic tag pins from the original heater assembly.
  2. When installing a new heater element, attach the element to the cover with the pre-applied adhesive.
  3. When reusing the original heater element, attach the heater assembly to the cushion cover with 3M® 6035PC two-sided adhesive tape or equivalent. Apply the tape to the cross-hatched sections shown in the diagram. Attach the element to the cushion cover with the wires facing down, away from the cover.
