Removal Procedure
- Disable the SIR system.

- Remove the tilt lever. Refer to
Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle
.
- Remove the steering column lower trim cover mounting screws (1)
from the steering column lower trim cover (2).
- Remove the steering column lower trim cover from the steering
column.
- Remove the upper trim
cover retaining screw (1) from the upper trim cover (2).
- Remove the upper trim cover from the steering column.
Installation Procedure
- Position the upper steering column trim cover on the steering
column.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the steering
column upper trim cover mounting screws (1) to the upper trim cover (2).
Tighten
Tighten the steering column upper trim cover mounting screws to 1.5 N·m
(13 lb in).
- Position the lower trim cover to the upper trim cover.
- Install the steering column
lower trim cover mounting screws (1) to the steering column lower
trim cover (2).
Tighten
Tighten the steering column lower trim cover mounting screws to 3.5 N·m
(31 lb in).
- Install the tilt lever. Refer to
Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle
.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
Enabling the SIR System
in SIR
