    Important: If installing a new linear shift assembly, it will come with a pre-adjusted park lock cable. Do not remove the tape from the park lock cable until installation of the steering column to the vehicle is complete.

  1. Install the linear shift assembly to the steering column.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install 3 new flat head 6 lobed soc tap screws to the linear shift assembly.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the 3 screws to 4 N·m (36 lb in).

  5. Put the shift lever clevis into the NUETRAL position.
  6. This will be 2 positions from the park position.

  7. Install the automatic transmission shift lock control.

  8. Object Number: 419648  Size: SH
  9. Install the shift lever seal (2) onto the shift lever assembly (4).
  10. Install the shift lever assembly (4) and secure it with the shift lever screw (3).
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  12. Install the upper and lower trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Assemble - Off Vehicle .
  13. Function check for park lock requirements when installation of the steering column to the vehicle is complete.
  14. Enable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
