Starter Replacement LS4

Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 1552773 Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  2. Remove the starter solenoid BAT terminal nut (3) and remove the positive battery cable (2) from the starter motor.
  3. Remove the engine harness terminal (4) from the starter motor.

  4. Disconnect the starter motor electrical connector (1).
  5. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.

    6. Object Number: 1552783 Size: SH
  6. Remove the starter motor bolts and starter motor.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1552783 Size: SH
  1. Position the starter motor to the engine.

    2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  2. Install the starter bolts.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  3. Connect the starter motor electrical connector (1).

    4. Object Number: 1552773 Size: SH
  4. Install the engine harness terminal (4) to the starter motor.
  5. Install the positive battery cable (2) and the starter solenoid BAT terminal nut (3) to the starter motor.

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the solenoid BAT terminal nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.

Starter Replacement RPOs LZE/LZ4/LZ8

Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 1617013 Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  2. Remove the front lower air deflector panel. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement.
  3. Remove the torque converter cover. Refer to Torque Converter Cover Replacement.
  4. Remove the starter solenoid BAT terminal nut (1) from the starter motor.
  5. Remove the positive battery cable terminal (2) and engine harness terminal (3) from the starter.

  6. Disconnect the starter motor electrical connector (3).

    7. Object Number: 1617015 Size: SH
  7. Remove the starter bolts.
  8. Remove the starter.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1617015 Size: SH
  1. Position the starter motor to the engine.

    2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  2. Install the starter bolts.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 43 N·m (32 lb ft).

  3. Connect the starter motor electrical connector (3).

    4. Object Number: 1617013 Size: SH
  4. Install the engine harness terminal (1) and positive battery cable terminal (2) to the starter. Ensure that the positive battery cable terminal anti-rotation feature is aligned correctly.
  5. Install the starter solenoid BAT terminal nut (3) to the starter motor.

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Install the torque converter covers. Refer to Torque Converter Cover Replacement.
  7. Install the front lower air deflector panel. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
