Camshaft Driven Sprocket Replacement Left Side

Removal Procedure

    • J 38613-A Camshaft Timing Clamps
    • J 38614 Camshaft Sprocket Holding Tool
  1. Remove the camshaft timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement .
  2. Remove the clamping device from the left camshaft sprockets.
  3. Rotate both of the camshaft sprockets in a counterclockwise motion so that the camshaft flats are face up.
  4. Install the J 38613-A .

  5. Object Number: 57364  Size: SH
  6. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolt using the J 38614 .
  7. Remove the camshaft sprocket using a soft faced hammer.
  8. Inspect the camshaft for wear or deformation. Replace the camshaft if these conditions exist.
  9. Inspect the nose of the camshaft for brinellling from the lock ring. Pressure marks are acceptable. Grooves on the camshaft are not acceptable and the camshaft must be replaced.
  10. Remove the flat ring from the sprocket bore.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the flat ring to the sprocket bore.
  2. Install the camshaft sprocket.
  3. Install the camshaft sprocket bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 130 N·m (96 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the camshaft timing belt.

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 38614 Camshaft Sprocket Holding Tool

  1. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolt using the J 38614 .

  2. Object Number: 57364  Size: SH
  3. Remove the camshaft sprocket using a soft faced hammer.
  4. Inspect the camshaft for wear or deformation. Replace it if these conditions are found.
  5. Inspect the nose of the camshaft for brinelling from the lock ring. Pressure marks are acceptable. Grooves on the camshaft are not acceptable and the camshaft must be replaced.
  6. Remove the flat ring from the sprocket bore.

Installation Procedure

  •    • 
  • Install the camshaft sprocket.
  •    • 
  • Install the camshaft sprocket bolt.
  • Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 130 N·m (96 lb ft).
