  1. If the vehicle is equipped with an electronic brake control module (EBCM), disconnect connector C1.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  3. If the vehicle is not equipped with an EBCM, go to Step 3 .

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the brake fluid level sensor.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the BRAKE indicator still illuminate?

Replace the brake fluid level sensor. Refer to Brake Fluid Level Indicator Switch Replacement .

Did you complete the repair?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the park brake switch.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the BRAKE indicator still illuminate?

Replace the park brake switch. Refer to Parking Brake Indicator Switch Replacement in Park Brake.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the daytime running lamps (DRL) control module.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the BRAKE indicator still illuminate?

  1. Test for a short to ground in circuit 1134.
  2. If the circuit is OK, replace the DRL control module. Refer to Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Control Module Replacement in Lighting Systems.

Replace the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition Switch Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle and to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.

  1. Test for a short to ground on circuit 33.
  2. If the circuit is OK, replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
