A burr on the upper and/or lower shift tube

Inspect and service the shift tubes as necessary.

Refer to Steering Column Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .

A misaligned column

1. Inspect the following components:

•	The column

•	Verify that the alignment is correct.

•	The mounting

•	The bearings

2. Adjust, repair and/or replace the components as needed.

Refer to Steering Column Replacement .

An improperly installed shaft seal

Reseat the seal. Tighten the seal as necessary.

Refer to Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .

Improper ignition switch screws

• Inspect the ignition switch for damage.
• Replace the screws with the specified screws.
• Refer to Ignition Switch Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .

An unlubricated seal or bearing

Lubricate the components as needed.

Refer to Steering Column Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .

An improperly assembled lower bowl bearing

Reassemble the components as necessary.

Refer to Steering Column Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .

Burrs in the wave washer

Replace the washers as necessary.

Refer to Steering Column Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .

Binding in the shift cable

Service the cable as necessary.

Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment .
