Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 212628 Size: SH
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System .
  2. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the yellow 2-way wiring harness connector on the inflatable restraint module coil at the base of the steering column.
  3. Disconnect the 2-way wiring harness connector from the inflatable restraint module coil.

  4. Remove the 2 screws (4) from the back of the inflatable restraint module using the #30 TORX® driver or equivalent.
  5. Remove the inflator module from the steering wheel.
  6. Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling, Shipping, and Scrapping .
  7. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) (6).
  8. Disconnect the yellow 2-way connector on the inflatable restraint module from the yellow 2-way connector (5) on the inflatable restraint coil.

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the yellow 2-way connector on the inflatable restraint steering wheel module to the yellow 2-way connector (5) on the inflatable restraint coil.
  2. Install the CPA (6).
  3. Secure the yellow 2-way connector on the inflatable restraint coil to the steering wheel, by inserting the thick section of the wire into the existing retainers.
  4. Position the inflatable restraint module to the steering wheel.

    5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Tighten the two screws (4) on the back of the inflatable restraint module using the #30 TORX® driver or equivalent.

    6. Tighten
    Tighten screws to 3 N·m (25 lb in).

  6. Connect the yellow 2-way wiring harness connector on the inflatable restraint module coil at the base of the steering column.
  7. Install the CPA to the yellow 2-way wiring harness connector on the inflatable restraint module coil.
  8. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System .
