  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Remove the key from the ignition lock cylinder.
  3. Disconnect the seat belt/ ignition key/ lamps alarm electrical connector.
  4. Using a DMM, measure the resistance between the seat belt/ ignition key/ lamps alarm harness connector terminal C1 and ground.

Is the resistance equal to the specified value?

Infinite

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect C201.
  2. Using a DMM, measure the resistance between the seat belt/ ignition key/ lamps alarm harness connector terminal C1 and ground.

Is the resistance equal to the specified value?

Infinite

Go to Step 4

  1. Inspect the seat belt/ ignition key/ lamps alarm electrical connector for a short at the ground terminal:
  2. If the connector is OK, replace the seat belt/ ignition key/ lamps alarm. Refer to Multifunction Alarm Module Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

  1. Inspect the wiring harness in the steering column for a short to ground in CKT 80 between C201 and the ignition key warning switch.
  2. If the wiring is OK, replace the ignition key warning switch. .

Repair the short to ground in CKT 80.

  1. Ensure that the ignition switch is in the LOCK position.
  2. Reconnect the connectors and reinstall the components that were removed.
