Removal Procedure
- Remove the rear door outer belt sealing strip. Refer to
Outer Belt Sealing Strip Replacement
- Heat the door frame molding
with a heat gun to approximately 21°C (70°F).
- Remove the door frame molding (1) by beginning at one edge.
Peel the molding from the door surface.
- Remove the adhesive residue
from the painted surfaces (1).
Use a silicone, wax and grease remover.
Installation Procedure
- Prepare the surface using the following procedure:
1.1. | Clean the painted surface with a silicone, wax and grease remover. |
1.2. | Clean the area where the strip or decal will be applied with a
50-50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water. |
1.3. | Wipe the panel surface with a clean cloth while the solvent is
still wet. |
- Remove the backing material
from the door frame molding (1).
- Align the opening on the door frame molding to the hole in the
door at the beltline.
At the same time, align the upper edge on the premask to the door edge.
- Install the molding (1)
to the pillar.
Use a foaming-type window cleaner, that does not contain ammonia, as
a wetting solution in order to allow movement of the molding for proper positioning.
- Apply soapy wetting solution on the top side of the molding in
order to ease the pull of the squeegee on the molding.
This will help to eliminate damage to the molding.
- Working from the center where possible, squeegee the molding into
position.
Use additional wetting solution as needed in order to ease installation
of the molding.
- Preheat the following areas of the molding briefly with the heat
gun:
- Remove the premask and the wrap molding from the following areas:
• | The front facing of the pillar |
- Apply the heat on the molding wrapped around hem flange for a
firm bond.
- Install the rear door outer belt sealing strip. Refer to
Outer Belt Sealing Strip Replacement
