Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 41545 Park/Neutral Switch Alignment Tool.

  1. Apply the parking brake and the block wheels.
  2. Place the vehicle in NEUTRAL.
  3. Remove the shift cable. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 99217  Size: SH
  5. Remove the electrical connector.

  6. Object Number: 99216  Size: SH
  7. Remove the shift lever.

  8. Object Number: 99090  Size: SH
  9. Remove the mounting bolts/screws.
  10. Remove the switch.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 99090  Size: SH
  1. Place the shift shaft in NEUTRAL.
  2. Align the flats of shift shafts to the switch.
  3. Install the mounting bolts/screws.
  4. Important: If the bolt/screw holes do not align with mounting boss on transaxle, ensure the shift shaft is in the NEUTRAL position. Do not rotate the switch. The switch will be pinned in NEUTRAL.

  5. Make the following necessary adjustments in the switch if the switch has been rotated and the pin has been broken or if the switch is being reused:
  6. 4.1. Assemble the mounting bolts/screws loosely.
    4.2. Align slots using the J 41545
    4.3. Torque the bolts/screws

    Tighten
    Tightening the mounting bolts/screws to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the shift lever.
  8. Install the electrical connector.
  9. Important: After the switch installation, ensure the engine only cranks up in PARK or NEUTRAL. If the engine starts in any other position, readjust the switch and/or inspect the shifter and the shifter cable.

  10. Install the shift cable. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement
