For 1990-2009 cars only
  1. Visually inspect the TRUNK REL/RFA Fuse.
  2. Verify that the following grounds are clean and tight:
  3. • G401
    • G402
  4. Inspect terminal contact before replacing any component.
  5. Attempt to use a second transmitter if a second transmitter is available.
  6. If the second transmitter works, change the batteries in the first transmitter. Try the first transmitter again.
  7. Attempt to reprogram the first transmitter.
  8. Replace the first transmitter if the transmitter is still not operational.

  9. Inspect the following components:
  10. • The transmitter battery
    • The battery should be installed with the positive side facing down.
    • The transmitter terminals
    • The transmitter terminals should be clean and make proper contact with the battery.
  11. If the condition of the transmitter batteries is in doubt, replace the batteries. Refer to Transmitter Battery Replacement .
  12. Measuring the battery voltage using the J 39200 Digital Multimeter (DMM) may give false results.

  13. This section provides information for the following procedures:
  14. • Remote control door lock receiver access
    • Programming
    • Synchronization
    • Additional information
  15. Verify that the remote control door lock receiver program connector terminals have not been jumpered.
  16. Jumpering the terminals leaves the receiver in program mode.

  17. Verify that CKT 1455 is not shorted to ground.
  18. Verify that CKT 850 is not open.
  19. Inspect for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation.
  20. A broken wire inside of the insulation may cause a system failure but prove GOOD in a continuity/voltage test.

  21. Inspect for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment.
  22. Improper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment may affect the integrity of other systems.

    Important: Continue with Keyless Entry electrical diagnosis only if the following conditions exist:

       • Both of the door lock switches control the door locks.
       • The following door lock motors function properly:
          - The right front door lock motor
          - The right rear door lock motor
          - The left rear door lock motor
       • The rear compartment lid release operates from the rear compartment lid release switch.
            The rear compartment lid release switch is located on the IP.
    Refer to the following procedures if the above conditions do not exist:
       • Refer to Power Door Locks System Check in Doors.
       • Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Release System Check in Body Rear End.

  23. Continue the diagnosis as necessary.
