For 1990-2009 cars only
  1. Visually inspect the trunk release/RFA fuse.
  2. Inspect the rear compartment lid release motor for a proper connection.
  3. Verify that the valet mode switch is in the OFF position.
  4. The valet mode switch is located on the rear compartment lid release motor.

  5. Verify that the transaxle gear selector is in one of the following positions when operating the rear compartment lid release:
  6. • The PARK position
    • The NEUTRAL position
  7. Verify that the following grounds are clean and tight:
  8. • G102
    • G401
  9. If the trunk release is only inoperable from the keyless entry transmitter, refer to Rear Release Inoperative with Transmitter in Keyless Entry.
  10. Inspect for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation.
  11. A broken wire inside of the insulation may cause a system failure, but prove good in a continuity/voltage test.

  12. Inspect for the proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment, if necessary.
  13. The improper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment may affect the integrity of other systems.
