Seat Belt Retractor Replacement - Right Front VIN 1
Removal Procedure
Important: The front passenger seat retractor is a dual-mode type retractor with
emergency locking and automatic locking features. The automatic locking feature
is for use with a forward-facing child seat. For further information, refer
to the owner's manual.
- Remove the rear seat cushion and the seat back.
- Remove the rear window trim panel. Refer to
Rear Window Shelf Trim Panel Replacement
in Interior
Trim.
- Open the plastic cover
(1) of the upper seat belt guide loop.
- Remove the upper seat belt guide loop bolt (3).
- Remove the upper seat belt guide loop (2) from the quarter upper
trim panel (6).
- Remove the coat hook.
- Remove the quarter upper trim finish panel.
- Remove the quarter lower trim finish panel.
- Remove the seat belt (2)
from the seat belt guide (1) through the slit in the guide.
- Slide the sleeve upward
in order to expose the lower seat belt anchor plate bolt (2).
- Remove the lower seat belt anchor plate bolt (2).
- Remove the bushing (3) at the lower seat belt anchor.
- Remove the seat belt (1) from the slot in the quarter lower trim
finish panel (4).
- Remove the seat belt retractor
bolt (3).
- Remove the driver seat retractor side belt (2) from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the passenger
seat retractor side belt (2) to the vehicle.
- Install the seat belt retractor (5) into the T-slot in the lower
quarter finish panel (4).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the seat
belt retractor bolt (2).
Tighten
Tighten the seat belt retractor bolt to 42 N·m (31 lb ft).
- Route the seat belt (1)
through the slot in the quarter lower trim finish panel (4).
- Install the bushing (3) at the lower seat belt anchor.
- Install the lower seat belt anchor plate bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the lower seat belt anchor plate bolt to 42 N·m
(31 lb ft).
- Slide the sleeve downward in order to cover the seat belt anchor
bolt.
- Position the seat belt
(2) into the guide (1) by placing the seat belt through the slit in the guide.
- Install the quarter lower finish trim panel.
- Install the quarter upper finish trim panel.
- Install the coat hook.
- Install the upper seat
belt guide loop (2) to the upper quarter trim panel (6).
- Install the upper seat belt guide loop bolt (3).
Tighten
Tighten the upper seat belt guide loop bolt 42 N·m (31 lb ft).
- Close the upper seat belt guide loop plastic cover (1).
- Install the rear window trim panel. Refer to
Rear Window Shelf Trim Panel Replacement
in Interior
Trim.
- Install the rear seat back and the cushion.

Removal Procedure

- Open the upper seat belt
guide loop (7) plastic cover.
- Remove the upper seat belt guide loop nut (5).
- Remove the upper guide loop (6) from the adjuster bracket (1).
- Remove the rear carpet
retainer. Refer to
Carpet Retainer Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Remove the lower seat belt anchor plate bolt.
- Remove the anchor plate from the center pillar.
- Route the seat belt from the hole at the bottom of the carpet
retainer.
- Remove the seat belt retractor bolt (2).
- Remove the seat retractor side belt (1) from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the seat belt
retractor side belt (1) to the vehicle.
- Install the seat belt retractor into the T-slot in the quarter
lower trim finish panel (3).

- Install the seat
belt retractor bolt (2).
Tighten
Tighten the seat belt retractor bolt to 42 N·m (31 lb ft).
- Route the seat belt (4) through the hole at the bottom of the
carpet retainer.
- Position the anchor plate to the center pillar.
- Install the lower seat belt anchor plate bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the lower seat belt anchor plate bolt to 42 N·m
(31 lb ft).
- Route the seat belt (4) through the slot in rear carpet retainer.
- Install the rear carpet retainer. Refer to
Carpet Retainer Replacement
in Interior
Trim.
- Install the upper guide
loop (6) to the adjuster bracket (1).
- Install the upper seat belt guide loop nut (5).
Tighten
Tighten the upper seat belt guide loop nut to 42 N·m (31 lb ft)
- Close the upper seat belt guide loop plastic cover.
