Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 28733-B Front Hub Spindle Remover

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and the wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Important: Do NOT remove the nut at this time. Failure to follow the proper removal sequence may cause permanent bearing damage.

  4. Loosen the drive axle shaft nut one turn. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Drive Axle.

  5. Object Number: 177683  Size: SH
  6. Remove the caliper and mounting bracket (5). Refer to Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement in Front Disc Brakes.
  7. Remove the rotor (4). Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement in Front Disc Brakes.

  8. Object Number: 193881  Size: SH
  9. Remove the drive axle shaft nut (1).
  10. Loosen the hub/bearing to knuckle/strut attaching bolts.

  11. Object Number: 177686  Size: SH
  12. Use the J 28733-B in order to push the axle splines back out of the hub/bearing.
  13. Important: Protect the axle seals (boots) from damage during handling.

  14. Remove the hub/bearing to knuckle attaching bolts.
  15. Remove the ABS sensor mounting bolt and position the ABS sensor aside in order to prevent damage.
  16. Remove the hub/bearing.
  17. Inspect all components for wear or damage.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the hub/bearing onto the axle shaft splines.
  2. Install the knuckle to hub/bearing attaching bolts. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Drive Axle.
  3. Properly position the ABS sensor and install the mounting bolt.

  4. Object Number: 177683  Size: SH
  5. Install the following components:
  6. Install the rotor (4). Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement in Front Disc Brakes.
  7. Install the brake caliper and mounting bracket (5). Refer to Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement in Front Disc Brakes.

  8. Object Number: 177684  Size: SH
  9. Install a new drive axle nut.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten Drive Axle Nut to 215 N·m(159 lb ft)

  11. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
