Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement Impala

Tools Required

J 38778 Door Trim Pad Clip Remover

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the license plate lamp. Refer to Rear License Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  2. Pull back the rear compartment trim panel. Refer to Rear Compartment Trim Panel Replacement in Body Rear End.

  3. Object Number: 457498  Size: SH
  4. Remove the nuts from the rear bumper fascia outer retainers.

  5. Object Number: 457495  Size: SH
  6. Remove the bolts in the rear compartment from the rear bumper fascia outer retainers.
  7. Remove the rear bumper fascia splash shield. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Splash Shield Replacement .
  8. Remove the bolts from the rear bumper fascia outer retainers.
  9. Remove the push-in retainers from the rear bumper fascia at the rear impact bar, using the J 38778 .
  10. Remove the rear bumper fascia from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the rear bumper fascia to the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 457496  Size: SH
  3. Install the push-in retainers to the rear bumper fascia.

  4. Object Number: 457498  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the nuts to the rear bumper fascia outer retainers.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the rear bumper fascia outer retainer nuts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  7. Install the bolts to the rear bumper fascia outer retainers.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the rear bumper fascia outer retainer bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  9. Install the nut to the rear bumper fascia outer retainer.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the rear bumper fascia outer retainer nut to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  11. Install the rear bumper fascia splash shield. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Splash Shield Replacement .
  12. Pull back the rear compartment trim panel. Refer to Rear Compartment Trim Panel Replacement in Body Rear End.
  13. Install the license plate lamp. Refer to Rear License Lamp Replacement in Lightning Systems.

Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement Monte Carlo

Tools Required

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the license plate lamp. Refer to Rear License Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  2. Remove the back up lamps. Refer to Backup Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  3. Pull back the rear compartment trim panel. Refer to Rear Compartment Trim Panel Replacement in Body Rear End.

  4. Object Number: 457313  Size: SH
  5. Remove the bolts in the rear compartment from the rear bumper fascia outer retainers.
  6. Remove the rear bumper fascia splash shield. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Splash Shield Replacement .
  7. Remove the bolts from the rear bumper fascia outer retainers.

  8. Object Number: 457309  Size: SH
  9. Remove the push-in retainers from the rear bumper fascia at the rear impact bar, using the J 38778 .
  10. Remove the rear bumper fascia from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the rear bumper fascia to the vehicle.
  2. Install the rear bumper fascia push-in retainers.

  3. Object Number: 457313  Size: SH

    Tighten the rear bumper fascia outer retainer nut to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  8. Install the rear bumper fascia splash shield. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Splash Shield Replacement .
  9. Pull back the rear compartment trim panel. Refer to Rear Compartment Trim Panel Replacement in Body Rear End.
  10. Install the license plate lamp. Refer to Rear License Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  11. Install the back up lamps. Refer to Backup Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
