Antilock Brake System Schematics

Circuit Description

The right rear solenoid valve is part of Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV). The BPMV turns ON and OFF the right rear solenoid valve in order to modulate the brake hydraulic pressure to the right rear wheel brake during an ABS stop.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

    • The Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) detects an open, a short to voltage, or a short to ground in the right rear solenoid circuitry.
    • DTC 0090 can be set anytime

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • A malfunction DTC stores.
    • The ABS disables.
    • The ABS warning indicator turns ON.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists and the Scan Tool Clear DTCs function is used.

Diagnostic Aids

If DTC C0125 (Value Relay Circuit Open) is set (Current or History) go to the DTC C0125 table first.

Test Description

The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table.

  1. The Diagnostic System Check must be the starting point for any ABS related diagnosis.

  2. If a valve relay circuit malfunction exists this DTC may set. Therefore the DTC C0125 must be diagnosed first.

  3. If the condition for the malfunction is currently present the Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) is malfunctioning.

  4. Test the right rear solenoid by turning it on an off through a scan tool. The scan tool will display if the EBCM commands the right rear solenoid ON and feedback status.

  1. Connect a scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DTC).
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  3. Select Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) on the scan tool.
  4. Select Clear DTC Information on the scan tool.
  5. Select Special Functions from the Application Menu on the scan tool.
  6. Select Device Control on the scan tool.
  7. Apply the right rear solenoid with the scan tool command.

Did the scan tool display right rear solenoid command ON and monitor ON during this test?

Replace the brake pressure modulator valve assembly. Refer to On-Vehicle Service for Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Assembly Replacement procedures.
