- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Place a jack stand under the suspension crossmember.
- Lower the vehicle slightly in order to place the weight of vehicle
on the suspension crossmember and not on the control arms.
- Remove the steering knuckle with the axle hub. Refer to
Steering Knuckle Replacement
.
- Clamp the steering knuckle with the axle hub in a soft-jawed vise.
- Inspect the movement of the ball stud
by moving the ball stud back and forth 5 times.
- Use a torque wrench in order to turn the nut continuously for
1 turn every 2-4 seconds.
- Take the torque reading on the fifth turn.
Reading
The reading should be 1.0-2.9 N·m (9-26 lb in).
- If the movement of the ball stud is not within the specification,
replace the ball stud. Refer to
