For 1990-2009 cars only
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Place a jack stand under the suspension crossmember.
  3. Lower the vehicle slightly in order to place the weight of vehicle on the suspension crossmember and not on the control arms.
  4. Remove the steering knuckle with the axle hub. Refer to Steering Knuckle Replacement .
  5. Clamp the steering knuckle with the axle hub in a soft-jawed vise.

  6. Object Number: 238010  Size: SH
  7. Inspect the movement of the ball stud by moving the ball stud back and forth 5 times.
  8. Use a torque wrench in order to turn the nut continuously for 1 turn every 2-4 seconds.
  9. Take the torque reading on the fifth turn.
  10. Reading
    The reading should be 1.0-2.9 N·m (9-26 lb in).

  11. If the movement of the ball stud is not within the specification, replace the ball stud. Refer to Lower Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement .
