Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the master cylinder reservoir. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Replacement .
  2. Remove the master cylinder from the vehicle. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 239133  Size: SH
  4. Place the master cylinder in a vise.
  5. Using a screwdriver, push the pistons in all the way.

  6. Object Number: 239132  Size: SH
  7. Remove the following components:
  8. • The piston stopper bolt
    • The gasket
    • The snap ring

    Object Number: 239139  Size: SH
  9. Place a rag and 2 wooden blocks on the work area.
  10. Lightly tap the cylinder flange against the block edges until the piston drops out of the cylinder.
  11. Clean the following components using clean brake fluid:
  12. • The inside of the reservoir
    • The outside of the reservoir
    • The master cylinder body
    • The master cylinder internal parts
  13. Dry all of the parts using dry, compressed air.
  14. Inspect the reservoir and the cap for the following conditions:
  15. • Cuts
    • Cracks
    • Deformation
  16. Inspect the master cylinder body for scoring or corrosion. Replace the master cylinder if scoring or corrosion is evident.
  17. Inspect the master cylinder internal parts for wear. Replace the parts as necessary.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 239132  Size: SH

    Important: Replacement internal parts for the master cylinder are available only as a complete piston set. Replace all of the master cylinder internal parts as a set.

  1. Coat all of the parts using clean brake fluid.
  2. Install the piston into the master cylinder.
  3. Compress the piston into the master cylinder bore.
  4. Install the snap ring.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the piston stopper bolt and the gasket.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the piston stopper bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  8. Install the master cylinder reservoir to the master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Replacement .
  9. Install the master cylinder assembly to the vehicle. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement .
