Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.

  3. Loosen the TV cable locknut and adjust the nut.
  4. Remove the TV cable from the throttle valve linkage and TV cable bracket.
  5. Remove the TV cable from the TV cable guide bracket at top of the transaxle.
  6. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  8. Remove the 6 bolts and the left splash shield (1)  from the vehicle.
  9. Place a drain pan or a suitable container under the transaxle fluid pan.

  11. Remove the transaxle drain plug (2) from the transaxle fluid pan (1) and drain transaxle fluid.
  12. Remove the Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch from the transaxle. Refer to Park/Neutral Position Switch .
  13. Remove the transaxle fluid pan and gasket from the transaxle. Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter Replacement .

  15. Remove the TV cable (2) from the throttle valve cam (1) at valve body assembly.

  17. Remove the TV cable (1) from the retaining bolt. Remove the TV cable from the transaxle bore.

Installation Procedure

  1. If you are installing a new TV cable, you must first stake the TV cable stopper:
  2. 1.1. In order to stake the TV cable stopper on a new TV cable, bend the TV cable (3) to an approximate radius of 200 mm (7.87 in).
    1.2. Pull on the TV cable until you feel a slight resistance. Then stake the TV cable stopper (1) at approximately 0.8-1.5 mm (0.03-0.059 in) from the end of the TV cable.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the TV cable (1) into the transaxle (2). Secure the TV cable with one retaining bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the TV cable retaining bolt to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  5. Install the TV cable to the throttle valve cam at the valve body assembly.
  6. Install the new transaxle fluid pan gasket and transaxle fluid pan to the transaxle. Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter Replacement .

  8. Install the transaxle drain plug (2) to the transaxle fluid pan.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the transaxle drain plug to 17 N·m (13 lb in).

  10. Install the PNP switch to the transaxle. Refer to Park/Neutral Position Switch .

  12. Install the left splash shield (1) to the vehicle. Secure with 6 bolts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the left splash shield bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Install the TV cable into the TV cable guide bracket at the top of the transaxle.

  17. Install the TV cable into TV cable bracket and throttle valve linkage.
  18. Adjust the TV cable. Refer to Automatic Transmission Throttle Valve Cable Adjustment .
  19. Connect the negative (-) battery cable. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  20. Refill the transaxle as necessary. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check .
