Removal Procedure
Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
• | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
- Disable the SIR system. Refer
to
Disabling the SIR System
in SIR.
- Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to
Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle
.
- Remove the ignition lock
cylinder (8). Refer to
Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle
.
- Remove the ignition switch (6). Refer to
Ignition Switch Replacement - On Vehicle
.
Important: The ignition lock cylinder solenoid and the ignition key alarm switch
utilize the same connector.
- Remove the following components from the case:
• | The ignition lock cylinder solenoid (1) |
• | The ignition key alarm switch (9) |
- Use a screw extractor or a center punch in order to remove the
2 ignition switch cylinder case bolts (3, 4).
- Remove the ignition lock cylinder case (7) and the case
clamp (2).
Installation Procedure
- Install the ignition lock
cylinder case (7) and the case clamp (2) to the steering column.
Secure the components to the column with 2 new tapered head
bolts (3, 4). Tighten the bolts until the bolt heads break
off.
- Install the following components to the case:
• | The ignition key alarm switch (9) |
• | The ignition lock cylinder solenoid (1) |
- Install the ignition switch (6). Refer to

- Install the ignition lock cylinder (8). Refer to
Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle
.
- Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to
Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle
.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
Enabling the SIR System
in SIR.
