Removal Procedure

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the knee bolster trim panel and the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.

  3. Remove the 3 screws and the steering column lower trim cover (6).
  4. Remove the screw and the steering column upper trim cover (7).

    5. Object Number: 244317 Size: MH
  5. Remove the ignition lock cylinder (8) from the ignition lock cylinder case (7). Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle .
  6. Disconnect the ignition key alarm switch connector (9).
  7. Remove the ignition key alarm switch (9) from the ignition lock cylinder case.
  8. Remove the 2 screws and the ignition lock cylinder solenoid (1) from the case.
  9. In order to replace the ignition lock cylinder solenoid without the ignition key alarm switch, remove the ignition lock cylinder solenoid wires from the ignition key alarm switch connector.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 244317 Size: MH
  1. If you are replacing the solenoid, install the ignition lock cylinder solenoid wires (1) to the ignition key alarm switch connector (9).
  2. Install the ignition lock cylinder solenoid (1) to the ignition lock cylinder case (7).

    3. Install the 2 screws in order to retain the solenoid to the case.

  3. Install the ignition key alarm switch (9) to the case.
  4. Connect the ignition key alarm switch connector.
  5. Install the ignition lock cylinder (8) to the case. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle .

    6. Object Number: 363398 Size: SH
  6. Install the steering column upper trim cover (7).

    7. Install the screw in order to retain the upper trim cover to the column.

  7. Install the steering column lower trim cover (6).

    8. Install the 3 screws in order to retain the lower trim cover to the column.

  8. Install the knee bolster and the knee bolster trim panel. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
