Did you review the Lighting System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Verify that the headlamps are inoperative in high beams.

Does the system operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the DRL control module connector.
  2. Press the dimmer switch forward to the High position and.
  3. Test for open between cavity 3 of the DRL control module connector and ground.

Is an open condition present in the circuit?

Go to Step 9

  1. Disconnect the turn signal/headlamp switch connector.
  2. Press the dimmer switch forward to the High position.
  3. Test for open between cavity 7 and cavity 16 of the turn signal/headlamp switch.

Is there an open in the turn signal/headlamp switch?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

Test for an open between cavity 3 of the DRL control module connector and cavity 7 of the turn signal/headlamp switch connector.

Is an open condition present in the circuit?

Go to Step 8

Replace the turn signal/headlamp switch.

Is the replacement complete?

Go to Step 16

Repair the open in the RED/YEL wire between cavity 3 of the DRL control module connector and cavity 7 of the turn signal/headlamp switch. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 16

Repair the open in the WHT/BLK wire between cavity 16 of the turn signal/headlamp switch and ground. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 16

  1. Move the dimmer switch forward to the high position.
  2. Test for high resistance between cavity 2 of the DIMMER relay socket to chassis ground.

Is there high resistance in the WHT/RED wire to ground?

Go to Step 10

  1. Remove the DIMMER relay from fuse and relay block 2 located in the LH front engine compartment, left of the battery.
  2. Connect a fused jumper from cavity 4 to cavity 3 of the DIMMER relay socket.
  3. Turn the light switch to the Head position.

Do the headlamps illuminate to the high setting?

Go to Step 14

  1. Disconnect the DRL control module connector.
  2. Test for high resistance between cavity 20 of the DRL control module connector and cavity 2 of the DIMMER relay.

Is there high resistance in the WHT/RED wire?

Go to Step 13

Locate and repair the open in the WHT/RED wire between the IP lamp dimmer relay and the DRL control module. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 16

Replace the DRL control module. Refer to Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Control Module Replacement .

Is the replacement complete?

Go to Step 16

Replace the DIMMER relay in the fuse and relay block 2 located in the LH front engine compartment, left of the battery.

Is the replacement complete?

Go to Step 16

Locate and repair the open in the BLK/RED wire between the IP lamp dimmer relay and the fuse and relay block 1. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 16

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
