Schematic Reference: Wiper/Washer Schematics

DEFINITION: This table diagnoses the wipers operate normally but will not return to the park position when the wiper operation is cancelled.

Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn the wiper switch to the LO position and observe two cycles of the wiper arms.
  3. Turn the wiper/washer switch to the OFF position.
  4. Verify that the wipers will not park when the wiper operation is cancelled.

Do the wipers return to the park position and stop?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the wiper motor connector. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement for access.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Test the Run/Park voltage supply circuit at the wiper motor connector cavity 6 for ignition positive voltage.

Did you measure ignition positive voltage?

Go to Step 4

  1. Make sure the wiper switch is in the Off position.
  2. Test the wiper motor connector for an open between cavity 3 and cavity 5.

Did you measure an open between cavity 3 and cavity 5?

Go to Step 7

  1. Disconnect the wiper/washer switch connector. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement for access.
  2. Turn the wiper/washer switch to the Off position.
  3. Test for continuity between cavity 7 and cavity 16 of the wiper/washer switch connector.

Did you test continuity between cavity 7 and cavity 16?

Go to Step 9

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 12

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper motor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open in the BLU wire of the Run/Park voltage supply circuit between cavity 6 of the wiper motor and SP251. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Repair the open in the BLU/WHT wire between cavity 5 of the wiper motor connector and cavity 16 of the wiper/washer switch connector. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
