Schematic Reference: Wiper/Washer Schematics

DEFINITION: This table diagnoses the wipers are always on when the windshield wiper/washer switch is turned to the off position.

Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

Verify that the wipers are always on when the wiper/washer switch is turned to the OFF position.

Do the wipers operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Disconnect the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement for access.

Do the wipers still continue to operate?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

With the wiper/washer switch still disconnected, test the Low and High speed control circuits at the wiper/washer switch connector for a short to voltage.

Did you test a short to voltage at either circuit?

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 5

With the wiper/washer switch still disconnected, test the Run/Park supply circuit at the wiper/washer switch connector for a short to voltage.

Did you test a short to voltage in the Run/Park circuit?

Go to Step 6

With the wiper/washer switch still disconnected, perform the following steps:

  1. Disconnect the wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement for access.
  2. Test the Run/Park voltage supply circuit at the wiper/washer switch connector for a short to voltage.

Did you test a short to voltage in the Run/Park circuit?

Go to Step 10

With the wiper/washer switch still disconnected, perform the following steps:

  1. Disconnect the wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement for access.
  2. Test the Low and High speed control circuits at the wiper/washer switch connector for a short to voltage.

Did you test a short to voltage in either circuit?

Go to Step 10

Go to Step 8

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper motor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 13

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 13

Repair the short to voltage in the wiring between the wiper/washer switch and the wiper motor. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 13

Replace the wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
