Schematic Reference: Wiper/Washer Schematics

DEFINITION: This table diagnoses the wipers inoperative in the INT, LO, and HI positions.

Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

Go to Symptoms - Wiper/Washer Systems

1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF
2. Move the windshield wiper/washer switch to the INT, LO, and HI positions and verify that the wipers are inoperative in all modes.

Do the wipers operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

1. Disconnect the wiper motor connector. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement for access.
2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
3. Turn the wiper switch to the HI position.
4. Test the High speed control circuit at the wiper motor connector for ignition positive voltage.

Did you measure ignition positive voltage?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

Test the ground circuit at the wiper motor connector for a high resistance or an open condition.

Did you test a high resistance or an open in the ground circuit?

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 6

1. Disconnect the wiper/washer switch connector. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement for access.
2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
3. Test the voltage supply circuit at the wiper/washer switch connector.

Did you measure ignition positive voltage?

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 8

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper motor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 12

Go to Step 11

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 12

Go to Step 10

Repair the open voltage supply circuit between the wiper/washer switch connector and the junction block. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 12

Repair the open wire between the wiper motor connector and ground. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 12

Replace the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 12

Replace the wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 12

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?

System OK
