Schematic Reference: Wiper/Washer Schematics

DEFINITION: This table diagnoses the wipers are inoperative in one or more modes but operate in at least one mode.

Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF
  2. Move the windshield wiper/washer switch to the INT, LO, and HI positions and verify that the wipers are inoperative in one or more modes.

Do the wipers operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Do the wipers operate in the LO position?

Go to Step 4

Do the wipers operate in the INT position?

Go to Step 5

Do the wipers operate in the HI position?

Go to Step 16

  1. Disconnect the wiper motor connector. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement for access.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Turn the wiper switch to the LO position.
  4. Test the Low speed control circuit at the wiper motor connector for ignition positive voltage.

Did you measure ignition positive voltage?

Go to Step 10

  1. Disconnect the wiper/washer switch connector. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement for access.
  2. Make sure the wiper switch is in the LO position.
  3. Test the wiper/washer switch between terminal 7 and terminal 17 for an open.

Does the wiper/washer switch test open when the switch is in the LO position?

Go to Step 11

  1. Disconnect the wiper motor connector. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement for access.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Turn the wiper switch to the HI position.
  4. Test the Low speed control circuit at the wiper motor connector for ignition positive voltage.

Did you measure ignition positive voltage?

Go to Step 10

  1. Disconnect the wiper/washer switch connector. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement for access.
  2. Turn the wiper switch to the HI position.
  3. Test the wiper/washer switch between terminal 8 and terminal 17 for an open.

Does the wiper/washer switch test open when the switch is in the HI position?

Go to Step 11

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper motor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open voltage supply circuit between cavity 7 of the wiper/washer switch connector and cavity 3 of the wiper motor connector. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open voltage supply circuit between cavity 8 of the wiper/washer switch connector and cavity 2 of the wiper motor connector. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement .
