- Ensure that the engine oil level is correct.
- Ensure that the engine develops adequate oil pressure. Refer to Oil Pressure Diagnosis and Testing
in Engine Mechanical - 2.2L or Oil Pressure Diagnosis and Testing
in Engine Mechanical
- 4.3L.
- Remove the connector from the fuel pump oil pressure switch.
- Connect a variable 100 ohms resistor between the fuel
pump oil pressure switch connector terminal A and the ground.
- Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
- Turn the variable resistance (potentiometer) back and forth for
maximum to minimum resistance.
Does the oil pressure gauge operate normally?
| 0 ohms (no oil pressure)
88 ohms (maximum oil pressure)

- Replace the fuel pump oil pressure switch.
- Reconnect the fuel pump oil pressure switch connector.

cavity A2 and the fuel pump oil pressure switch connector cavity A.
