DEFINITION: The CARGO COVER AJAR message is always displayed on the driver information center (DIC) when the rear compartment lid is completely closed.

Did you perform the Body Rear End Diagnostic System Check?

Go to Step 2

  1. Ensure that the rear compartment lid is completely closed.
  2. Ensure that all of the criteria for operating the power folding top are met.
  3. Attempt to operate the power folding top.

Does the DIC display the Cargo Cover Ajar message?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the rear compartment lid ajar switch.
  3. Turn the ignition ON.
  4. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit and the ground circuit at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid ajar switch.
  5. Observe the DIC while attempting to activate the power folding top.

Does the DIC display the Cargo Cover Ajar message?

Go to Step 4

  1. Connect the 3-amp jumper wire from the rear compartment lid ajar signal circuit at the rear compartment lid ajar switch harness connector to a good ground.
  2. Observe the DIC while attempting to activate the power folding top.

Does the DIC display the Cargo Cover Ajar message?

Test the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid ajar switch for an open or a high resistance. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the roof and door module (RDM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or high resistance in the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Latch Replacement .

Replace the RDM. Refer to Folding Top Control Module Replacement .
