DEFINITION: The rear compartment lid does not release when the rear compartment lid release switch is pressed.

Press the rear compartment lid release switch.

Does the rear compartment lid release operate?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  3. Observe the rear compartment lid release command parameter in the roof and door module (RDM) inputs data list, while pressing the rear compartment lid release switch.

Does the scan tool display active when the switch is pressed?

Go to Step 4

Using a scan tool, command the rear compartment lid release relay ON.

Does the relay activate when commanded ON?

Go to Step 11

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release switch.
  3. Connect a 5-amp fused jumper wire between the rear compartment lid release switch signal circuit and the rear compartment lid release switch ground circuit.

Does the rear compartment lid release operate?

Connect a 5-amp fused jumper between the rear compartment lid release switch signal circuit and a good ground.

Test the rear compartment lid release switch signal circuit for an open or a short to voltage.

  1. Remove the rear compartment lid release relay.
  2. Probe both battery positive voltage circuits of the rear compartment lid release relay with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate for both circuits?

Repair the open or the short to ground in the appropriate battery positive voltage circuit of the rear compartment lid release relay.

Test the control circuit of the rear compartment lid release relay for an open or a short to voltage.

Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Remove the rear compartment lid release relay.
  2. Momentarily connect a 20-amp fused jumper wire between the battery positive voltage circuit of the rear compartment lid release relay, and the supply voltage circuit of the rear compartment lid latch assembly at the rear compartment lid release relay.

Does the rear compartment lid release operate?

Test the supply voltage circuit of the rear compartment lid latch assembly for an open or a short to ground.

Test the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid latch assembly for an open or high resistance.

Repair the open or high resistance in the rear compartment lid release switch ground circuit. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
