Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Eye Protection Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Folding Top Hydraulic Pressure Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Servicing Electrical Components Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Cycle the stowage compartment lid open.
  2. Stop the cycle when the stowage compartment lid extension panel is fully open.
  3. Remove the stowage compartment lid latch. Refer to Folding Top Stowage Compartment Lid Latch Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 1306393  Size: SH
  5. Gently pry up on the lower retaining clip in order to remove the latch hydraulic cylinder from the lower ball stud on the stowage compartment lid latch.

  6. Object Number: 1306396  Size: SH
  7. Remove the upper retaining clip from the clevis pin. Note the location of all the plastic washers for installation.

  8. Object Number: 1306400  Size: SH
  9. Remove the upper clevis pin.
  10. Mark the location of the cylinder sensors.
  11. Slide the gray cylinder cover back about 3 mm (0.118 in). Squeeze the black tab and disconnect the main cylinder position sensor electrical connectors. Cut the tie straps and electrical tape as needed.

  13. Remove the hydraulic cylinder from the stowage compartment latch.
  14. Place the hydraulic cylinder in a catch pan to catch any loss of fluid.

Disassembly Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Cylinder Hoses Notice in the Preface section.

    Important: Once the cylinder hose of the port plug has been removed, DO NOT move the cylinder rod. Moving the cylinder rod will cause fluid to squirt out of the ports.

  1. Ensure that the ignition switch is in the OFF position and that the folding top has not been operated under power for at least 6 minutes.

  2. Object Number: 1226132  Size: SH

    Important: Before disconnecting the cylinder hoses, have the replacement cylinder ready.

  3. Using a flat-bladed tool, release the retainer clips (1) from one of the cylinder hoses.
  4. Remove the cylinder hose retainer clips and discard the clips.

  6. Remove the cylinder hose (1). Use a clean shop towel to control any hydraulic fluid leakage.

  7. Object Number: 1226143  Size: SH
  8. Using a plastic or wood tool, remove the cylinder hose O-ring.
  9. Using a small flat-bladed tool, release one of the port plug retainer clips from the replacement cylinder.
  10. Remove the retainer clips from the replacement cylinder.
  11. Important: Replacement cylinders are prefilled with fluid. DO NOT remove the port plug from the cylinder until you are ready to connect the cylinder hose.

  12. Remove the port plug from the replacement cylinder.
  13. Remove the port plug O-ring (1) from the replacement cylinder.

Assembly Procedure

  1. Lubricate and install a new O-ring (2) onto the cylinder hose (1).
  2. Install the hose into the cylinder port (3). Press down on the hose until the hose is fully seated in the cylinder. Keep the hose as parallel with the cylinder as possible.

  3. Object Number: 1226152  Size: SH
  4. Install a new cylinder hose retainer clip (1). Inspect the retainer clip to ensure that the clip is fully seated around the hose (2).
  5. Repeat this procedure for the other hose.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1306401  Size: SH
  1. Install the hydraulic cylinder to the stowage compartment lid latch.

  2. Object Number: 1306400  Size: SH
  3. Install the upper clevis pin and washer as noted during disassembly.

  4. Object Number: 1306396  Size: SH
  5. Install the upper clevis pin retaining clip.
  6. Install the hydraulic cylinder to the lower ball stud.
  7. Push firmly to seat the hydraulic cylinder to the ball stud.
  8. Connect the electrical connectors to the main cylinder position sensors. Fully seat the gray cover. Use new tie straps and re-tape as needed.
  9. Install the stowage compartment lid latch into the vehicle. Refer to Folding Top Stowage Compartment Lid Latch Replacement .
  10. Bleed the hydraulic system. Refer to Folding Top Hydraulic System Bleeding Procedure .
  11. Inspect the hydraulic system for any oil leaks.
  12. Inspect the fluid level and add fluid as needed. Refer to Folding Top Fluid Addition .
  13. Inspect the folding top for proper operation. Refer to Power Folding Top Description and Operation .
