KM-507-C Ball Joint Remover

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1631458  Size: SH
  1. Remove the intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt (1).
  2. Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

  3. Object Number: 1222757  Size: SH
  4. Complete the following steps on each side of the vehicle:
  5. 3.1. Remove the cotter pin (1).
    3.2. Remove the nut (3).
    3.3. Use the KM-507-C  (2) in order to separate the outer tie rod from the knuckle.
  6. If equipped, remove the engine protection shield. Refer to Engine Protection Shield Replacement .
  7. Remove the front exhaust muffler. Refer to Muffler Replacement .

  9. Remove the bolt and the nut (1) from the transmission side of the transmission bracket.
  10. Loosen the bolt (2) on the body side of the transmission bracket.

  11. Object Number: 1637506  Size: SH
  12. Disconnect the return pipe fitting (1) from the steering gear.
  13. Disconnect the pressure pipe fitting (2) from the steering gear.
  14. Plug the openings in the power steering pipes in order to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

  15. Object Number: 1637187  Size: SH
  16. Remove the lower bracket bolts (1) and the washer from the power steering gear.
  17. Remove the upper bracket bolts (2) and the washer from the power steering gear.
  18. Move the steering gear toward the passenger side.
  19. Move the steering gear into the underbody hole on the driver side.
  20. Remove the steering gear from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1637187  Size: SH
  1. Install the power steering gear with the upper bolts (2) and the washer.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 57 N·m (42 lb ft).

  3. Install the lower bolts (1) and the washer.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 57 N·m (42 lb ft).

  5. Install the power steering pressure pipe fitting (2) and the return pipe fitting (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the fittings to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  7. Install the bolt and the nut (1) to the transmission bracket.
  8. Tighten the nuts and the bolts to the transmission bracket.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts and the bolts to 80 N·m (59 lb ft).

  10. Install the front exhaust muffler. Refer to Muffler Replacement .
  11. If equipped, install the engine protection shield. Refer to Engine Protection Shield Replacement .

  12. Object Number: 1224852  Size: SH
  13. Complete the following steps on each side of the vehicle:
  14. 8.1. Install the tie rod end to the knuckle.
    8.2. Install the nut (1).

    Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

    8.3. Install the cotter pin.
  15. Install the wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

  16. Object Number: 1631494  Size: SH
  17. Install the intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt (1).
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  19. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  20. Inspect for leaks, correct the cause of the leaks, and bleed the system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  21. Inspect the vehicle. Refer to Straight Ahead Inspection .
  22. Measure the wheel alignment.
  23. If necessary, adjust the toe. Refer to Front Toe Adjustment .
