Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 480250  Size: SH
  1. Verify the park brake lever is in the released position.
  2. Remove the 4 screws (1,3,4,6), the 2 clips (2,5), and lift up the console.
  3. If the vehicle has an automatic transmission, disconnect the power neutral switch connector.
  4. If the vehicle has an auxiliary power outlet, disconnect the auxiliary power outlet connector.

  6. Disconnect the park brake switch connector (10).

  7. Object Number: 469851  Size: SH
  8. Remove the park brake cable lock nut (1).
  9. Remove the right park brake cable from the equalizer.
  10. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  11. Remove the right rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  12. Remove the right brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement in Drum Brakes.

  14. Turn the shoe hold down pins (1) in order to release the shoe hold down springs (2).
  15. Remove the shoe hold down springs.

  17. Remove the following components:
  18. • The upper return spring (1)
    • The strut
    • The adjuster (2)
    • The adjuster lever
    • The adjuster spring (5)
    • The strut spring (3)
    • The pawl lever (6)
  19. Remove the lower return spring (4)

  21. Disconnect the park brake cable (3) from the park brake shoe lever.
  22. Important: The color ring on the park brake cable is for identification.

  23. Squeeze the park brake cable stopper ring (2) in order to remove the cable (3) from the backing plate (1).
  24. Remove the 3 park brake retainer bolts and the 3 park brake retainers.
  25. Remove the park brake cable and the grommet from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the park brake cable and the grommet to the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the 3 park brake retainers and the 3 park brake retainer bolts in order to retain the cable to the vehicle.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the park brake retainer bolts to 10 N·m (88.5 lb in).

    Important: The color ring on the park brake cable is for identification. Verify the new park brake cable has the same color on the ring as the old park brake cable.

  5. Install the brake cable stopper ring (2) and the park brake cable (3) to the backing plate (1).

  6. Object Number: 470524  Size: SH
  7. Install the park brake cable spring (1) and the nipple end (2) to the park brake shoe lever (3).

  8. Object Number: 470551  Size: SH
  9. Install the lower return spring (4).
  10. Install the following components:
  11. • The upper return spring (1)
    • The strut
    • The adjuster (2)
    • The adjuster lever
    • The adjuster spring (5)
    • The strut spring (3)
    • The pawl lever (6)

  12. Install the shoe hold down springs (2). Turn the shoe hold down pins (1) in order to retain the shoe hold down springs.
  13. Install the right brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
  14. Install the right rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Important: The equalizer must be within 15 degrees of perpendicular to the park brake lever cable.

  17. Install the equalizer (5) to the park brake cable (4). Install the pin (6) in order to retain the cable to the equalizer.

  18. Object Number: 469851  Size: SH
  19. Install the park brake cable lock nut (1).

  20. Object Number: 470512  Size: SH
  21. Connect the park brake switch connector (10).
  22. Adjust the park brake system. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
  23. Position the console over the shift knob.
  24. If the vehicle has an auxiliary power outlet, connect the auxiliary power outlet connector.
  25. If the vehicle has an automatic transmission, connect the power neutral switch connector.

  27. Install the console. Install the 4 screws (1,3,4,6) and the 2 clips (2,5).
